Set Backs, Setting Goals and Success - Prayer & Meditation

PRAYER & MEDITATION:
Always remember a set-back is a set forward; the devil is deceitful, but GOD is wiser - never let yourself drown; let the LORD help you walk on water; you have a right and all authority and power to live well; whether rich or poor in resources, you are made rich and sustained by the LORD. Encourage yourself in the power of Yeshua, the Messiah, a powerful ruler, that came in the most humility; and like he took time to go to the temple on sabbath, take time to pray and meditate, in addition to serving patients directly or indirectly. Serving patients is not about how much you are educated or how much you are paid, God called us to serve and let Him lead the path, helping you navigate obstacles the devil will throw at you. I been through discriminations, illness, and just unbelievable situations, including dismissal from EVMS without an explanation right before graduation from a PathA program. Compassion is one thing that you think runs high in medical school, but one must understand, this world runs on business; there are lots of ethical problems with medical school rigorous training and physicians’ and other health professionals being overworked. You have to believe in God’s plan, because Christ, the Greatest Physician, faced massive disapproval and we are just his servants.

When shadowing the medical examiner’s office, we were told that suicide was the most common reason they received bodies. Physician suicide is also common in the USA. Breathing, taking time to relax seems impossible for pre-meds, medical students and physicians. However, it is vital to take time to breath, take a big breathe, relax. Pray, and meditate - putting GOD FIRST - makes life easier, not easy, but easier. Christ Jesus said; “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29 ).

Satan doesn’t want good doctors, nurses, physicians, PAs, hospital technicians or anything of the sought; the bible says he doesn’t want anything good for mankind. So, don’t be surprised when hindered in your good works. My friend, a doctor in dentistry, and P.A. student, and I, found Satan’s attack’s as a blessing in disguise; only because GOD comes to defend us and turn things around. We found time to breathe and reboot; when obstacles were placed before us. Genesis 50:20 “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.” God can turn what is against you, to be for you, according to his purpose, like He called Joseph to save many people including the brothers that harmed him. “So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him” (Isaiah 59:19 ). The Lord created you for His purposes, He will fight for you; take care of yourself and let God work in you and through you - take you rests, meditation, prayer times, and find how sabbath can promote not just your spiritual health, but mental, physical and social health.

Number one priority in patient care for highly trained students and professionals, including physicians, should be self-care and mental health. You can’t take care of other people effectively if giving up on your own body or life. In our country and world, clinician self-care should become a high priority. People that love their job, tend to do better and go the extra mile. We must strive to create an environment were jobs become enjoyable, so that we can better take care of patients whether directly or indirectly.

SET BACKS AND SETTING GOALS

Things do not usually go perfectly as planned, sometimes they do but sometimes, they do not. The devil lives to set you back; and God lives to defend you and turn set backs into set forwards. Keep your head-up & focus on your priorities and goals. Graduating high school or college was never easy, there is a lot of work and obstacles that came before graduation, I endured and worked around or through obstacles, yes it wasn’t easy; but it was worth it. Even as a scientist, PA, nurse or doctor, you will not have just good days, but yo will also have bad days too. You might be having set backs or one day you will. Here is what I learned.

Examine the situation, pause and then continue, or just continue, return, start afresh, or alter route or pathways or procedure, and/or set new goals if needed. Life comes with  unpredictable circumstances, yet you can still find ways to be the best that you are created to be.

Learn from your mistakes or mistakes of others, fair or unfair happenings. Poverty or low finances, being disadvantaged by family instability or lack of family, being a minority in a field or place, racism, classism, sexism, illness, disability and loss can add extra obstacles to regular academic or professional ups and downs; from your obstacles find strength and be the first at something extraordinary. Do not be afraid to report any abuses or discriminations done towards anyone, yourself and others in your school or work environments.

Set backs happen to everyone, everyone has their struggle; there is no reason to give up if you can sought it out; while you must use time wisely, sometimes take time to reflect and/or work on a situation or yourself. Family and friends matter, and so do you, find a balance; you can do more than you could ever imagine or think under God.  Your story is unique, have faith and you will succeed, taking one step at a time. There is nothing like doing the almost impossible. You don’t know how hard someone worked to get somewhere until you learn their story; so no matter where you are coming from, you are created to be able to be able to achieve your greatest potential by the creator. Remember people in a busy world might not understand your setbacks, they can’t possibly be you; but they will see the fire of your resilience and rising; one step is what it takes to get to the next and to the top. Your top is someone’s top and someone’s bottom; be humble and grateful, respect people above and below you as equal human beings that are also gifted and important; everyone matters, be ready to help anyone and even receive help from anyone, never underestimate anyone even a child or homeless person. Anyone could be the answer or hint for you to make that breakthrough, and don’t forget to give them credit or to thank them.

I thank everyone that’s in my circle, that have touched my life or even passed me by; I make it because of you. I have been rejected many times and accepted many times, I have experienced failure and I have succeeded many times - Don’t give up; Keep going! I always tell myself “I can do it!” - that’s the only way I was able to do what seemed scary or difficult the first time(s).

Some people will discourage you and some people will encourage you, even if they have good intentions, have faith and courage to stick to the positive if you intend to accomplish your goals one step and one at a time. To achieve a good things, one must overcome the challenges and the barriers along the way. Know that set backs can launch you, like a slingshot, so get ready to fly high when you fall, be wise, just gather your energy and center yourself in the right position to go forward and in power and then you will succeed. God will not leave you; do not leave Him, it is Him that equipped you and called you to accomplish good and great works that are your passion(s).
